Racial Trauma Therapy

Restoring the Mind, Body, and Spirit After Racial Harm

At Ujima Life Services, we understand that racism is not just a social issue—it’s a mental health issue. The emotional wounds caused by racial injustice, discrimination, microaggressions, and generational trauma are real and valid. As a practice rooted in the principle of Ujima—collective work and responsibility—we are here to hold space for that pain and walk with you toward healing.

We provide specialized counseling for individuals impacted by racial trauma, especially those in Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities. This work is approached with cultural humility, deep care, and a recognition of the ongoing realities our communities face.

You Are Not Overreacting. You Are Responding to Real Harm.

Racial trauma can show up as:
Chronic stress, anxiety, or hypervigilance
Sadness, anger, or grief that feels difficult to name or express
Difficulty trusting others or feeling safe in certain environments
Sleep disruptions or physical health concerns
Emotional exhaustion or burnout, especially in workplace or academic spaces
Feeling invisible, dismissed, or constantly on guard

Our Approach to Racial Trauma Counseling

We provide a space where your lived experience is believed and honored. Together, we will:
Name and process the impact of racialized experiences
Explore how trauma is stored in the body and work to release it
Learn grounding and mindfulness practices for nervous system regulation
Reclaim cultural identity, joy, and ancestral wisdom as part of healing
Build internal and external resources for empowerment and resilience

We employ evidence-based methods, complemented by a holistic, culturally attuned framework that respects your story and your strengths.

This Space Was Made for You

Whether you’re dealing with a specific incident or the ongoing toll of racialized stress, you deserve a space to breathe, speak freely, and be supported. This is that space.
