Therapeutic Horticulture
At Ujima Life Services, we believe in the profound healing power of nature. Our Therapeutic Horticulture service, led by a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), integrates the benefits of plant care into the therapeutic process to promote emotional well-being and personal growth.
What Is Therapeutic Horticulture? Therapeutic horticulture is a unique, hands-on approach that uses plant cultivation as a pathway to mental wellness. Engaging with plants has been shown to reduce stress, improve mood, and enhance mindfulness. By nurturing living things, individuals can develop patience, resilience, and a deeper sense of connection to the present moment.
How It Works
Winter Sessions (Indoor Plant Care): During colder months, therapy sessions incorporate indoor, non-toxic plants. Clients engage in activities such as potting, pruning, and tending to plants, fostering a sense of peace and stability in an otherwise dormant season. These sessions encourage mindfulness, responsibility, and a connection to life,
Spring to Harvest (Outdoor Edible Gardening): As the seasons change, therapy moves outdoors, where clients participate in cultivating edible plants. This hands-on experience, from planting seeds to harvesting fresh produce, provides a powerful metaphor for personal growth and transformation. Clients learn to navigate challenges, celebrate small victories, and cultivate a sense of accomplishment.
